Pedicab drivers want transmigration

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: About 500 families of pedicab drivers in Palembang, South Sumatra, wanted to enter the government-sponsored transmigration program for a better life and improved prosperity, a representative said.

Edi Catur, chairman of the Palembang Pedicab Drivers Association, said on Monday that the success story of 64 families that had migrated to Bertak village, Rimau island district, Banyu Asin regency, South Sumatra, had inspired the pedicab drivers to join the program.

He said that the demands from pedicab drivers were still being discussed with the provincial administration as it could not accommodate more than 76 families. --Antara
