Peddling for PDI true love

SEMARANG: The leadership rift tearing apart the Indonesian Democratic Party has failed to dent one man's love for the minority party.

Kasmudi, 55, has been cycling through nearby towns and villages on a solo campaign with a PDI flag on a stick strapped to the rear of his bicycle.

To attract attention, he plays Dangdut folk music on a tape recorder which he amplifies with a megaphone.

A banner under the flag reads, "Although I'm lonely, my love for PDI never fades."

He said yesterday his love for the PDI was stronger than the year-long split between the party's leaders, Soerjadi and Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"I love PDI because of its concern for the oppressed like me and I don't care who is in command," he said. (har/pan)
