PDI Perjuangan out to win

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) vowed on Friday not to let the chance of winning next week's polls slip from its grasp.

Speaking before thousands of party supporters in the packed IKIP Pancing square, PDI Perjuangan campaigner Guruh Soekarnoputra said the party wanted the victory to topple the status quo forces.

"PDI Perjuangan belongs to the people and will advocate only their interests. The people will crush the status quo forces," Guruh told the enthusiastic crowd.

Guruh was here to console the crowd who had poured into the campaign venue hours before the rally hoping to see his sister and PDI Perjuangan chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Party supporters cheered for their absent leader during a street rally that followed the gathering. Megawati has been named the party's presidential candidate. (39/40)
