PDI Perjuangan livid over demo permit

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) faction at the provincial legislature expressed disappointment with the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Indarto, who has allowed a group of people to rally during President Megawati Soekarnoputri's visit to the province slated for July 16-17.

"The police chief should have been more thoughtful and wiser in responding to a person's appeal to mobilize people during the President's visit. We deeply regret such an attitude." PDI Perjuangan faction chief, Hasyid, said on Friday.

He was referring to Tumbo Saranani, who informed the police of a demonstration to protest the inauguration of Mansyur Masie Abunawas and Muzakir Mustafa as the city mayor and deputy respectively.

Hasyid said the party supporters would prevent the demonstrators from spoiling the visit of Megawati, who is the party's chairwoman. --Antara
