PDI-P to promote political laws

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) plans to host a national meeting here to discuss the newly endorsed legislation on political parties and general elections.

The meeting, scheduled from Monday to Wednesday, will be held at the five-star Shangri-La Hotel and attended by more than 900 party executives nationwide.

Agnita Singadikane, the party's deputy secretary-general said on Sunday that party chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also the President, would open the three-day event.

"On the second day, she will forward the materials for the meeting," Agnita said.

A party source said the event would cost the party Rp 4 billion (US$450,500), but Agnita said the party would spend less than the amount. She said the party would pay for the accommodation of the participants but would not cover their transportation expenses. -- JP
