PDI-P skip council leaders induction

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: Seven councillors from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) failed to attend the induction of new leaders of the East Kalimantan Legislative Council on Thursday.

Councillor Soemarsono from the PDI-P fraction denied that it was a boycott measure, saying that the function was merely ceremonial. "So, there is nothing wrong with not attending the function."

The faction earlier rejected the election procedure of the council leaders, saying that it disadvantaged them.

The PDI-P faction has seven seats in the East Kalimantan provincial council, out of a total 45 seats. -- JP
