PDI-P plans to sue Cirebon mayor

CIREBON, West Java: The faction of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) at the Cirebon legislature plans to sue Cirebon Mayor Suriaatmadja for alleged irregularities in several development projects in the city in the past year.

"After learning of the mayor's accountability speech, our faction found irregularities in several development projects causing a huge amount in material losses to the state," Suryana, a member of the faction said here on Thursday.

Surya declined to elaborate on the irregularities.

The planned lawsuit might be connected to the faction's failure to win other party's support to turn down the mayor's 2001-2002 accountability speech which was recently accepted by the city legislature.

A reliable source in the faction said the mayor inserted a fictitious road project worth Rp 100 million in his speech, "but we could not find the project when we made a tour to the field recently." --JP
