PDI-P lawmakers lend Mega a hand

JAKARTA: About 30 percent of the House of Representatives legislators from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) are involved on the campaign team of party leader Megawati Soekarnoputri, says a legislator.

Tjahjo Kumolo, PDI-P faction chairman, said on Wednesday the remaining members of the 153-strong faction were focusing on their state duties.

He said the PDI-P lawmakers would struggle to complete the deliberations of the 47 remaining bills in the final four months of the sitting period. The legislators will end their term in September.

The House has seen poor attendance at crucial meetings over the past few years, slowing the task of deliberating bills. -- JP
