PDI-P councillor killed in Aceh

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: A member of the South Aceh council and head of the local chapter of PDI Perjuangan, Harun Aldy, has been found dead in South Aceh from gunshot and stab wounds.

Local police chief Maj. Supriadi Djalal said the body of Harun Aldy, 57, was found on Sunday morning by locals in Ruak village of North Kluet district, about 40 kilometers from Tapak Tuan, the main town of South Aceh.

The last time Harun was seen alive in public was during a council plenary session on Wednesday when he sharply criticized the executive's policy and alleged fund mismanagement in several humanitarian and development projects.

"We are investigating the attack. Harun was stabbed in the back 10 times and there is a gunshot wound to his forehead," Supriadi said adding that the motive for the murder remains unclear.

The killing was the third in Aceh since humanitarian pause between Free Aceh Movement (GAM) separatists and the government came into effect on June 2.(50/edt)
