PDI elects Bali chief
DENPASAR, Bali: The Bali chapter of the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) has appointed Ida Bagus Putu Wesnawa as its new chief.
Wesnawa was picked on Sunday as an alternative candidate in the absence of a consensus at the regional congress. The congress initially hoped to elect either the incumbent Adi Suedandi or his challenger Oka Ratmadi.
When neither candidate was prepared to back down, the congress decided to look for a compromise candidate and the choice went to Wesnawa. He will head the party's provincial chapter for the 1994-99 period. (emb)
