'PDI activists are like chicken'

PURBALINGGA, Central Java: Banyumas police chief Col. Binarto complained yesterday about the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) local chapter's decision to cancel its campaign Sunday despite receiving police permits.

The chapter's chairman, Tri Daya Kartika, said the program had been canceled because the chapter feared clashes with supporters of the ousted PDI chief Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"PDI activists should remain militant and proceed with the campaign even if there really are threats," Binarto told reporters here.

"What's this? A little threat and they canceled the campaign, then they're nothing but limp chicken," he said. (wah/swe)
