Patron named Perbasasi head

JAKARTA (JP): Abbas Adhar has been named the new chairman of the Indonesian Amateur Baseball and Softball Federation (Perbasasi), replacing Sugeng Supriyatna.

Abbas, who is also chairman of the Association of Indonesian Wood Panel Producers, will hold the position for the 1999 to 2003 term.

Suryo Adi Prasetyo, the new secretary-general, said Abbas was elected by a national congress, represented by chairman of Perbasasi's West Java chapter Pramana Suryaudaya, Sugeng and Abbas himself as a donor to Perbasasi.

Pramana will serve as the executive director and Sugeng will join the organization's advisory board.

Suryo said, as quoted by Antara, that Perbasasi would improve the development system in its provincial branches. It will also set up training centers in several provinces in Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi to support the development system. (yan)
