Patrols safeguard Jakarta, Tangerang

TANGERANG (JP): Jakarta Garrison chief of staff Maj. Gen. Adam Damiri said here yesterday the capital and Tangerang were safe and under control despite a series of recent bomb threats at supermarkets, banks, office buildings and hospitals.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with public figures and ulema at Tangerang Military Command, Adam said security personnel were patrolling the streets to ensure there was no misuse of firearms and sharp weapons by military personnel or the public.

So far, the military has confiscated two self-assembled firearms at Bekasi and North Jakarta, Adam said, but he did not name the owners, who claimed the guns were for self-protection.

Adam urged the public to dial 122 to pass on any information about security disturbances or to report directly to the nearest police station.

Several bomb threats were made in the Tangerang area to supermarkets, Bhakti Asih Maternity Hospital in Ciledug, Plaza Bumi Serpong Damai department store in Serpong, Lippo Karawaci Supermal in Karawaci and Robinson Plaza department store on Jl. Daan Mogot. (41/09)
