Parties protest poster design

YOGYAKARTA (JP): The Election Supervisory Committee here sent a written reminder to the local office of the Ministry of Information for issuing posters containing party logos which differed from those on ballot papers.

The committee demanded that the posters be withdrawn, saying they could confuse illiterate voters.

Suyono Suharjo of the committee said the reminder was sent following the request of the township's election committee.

"They said they have received many complaints from political parties," Suyono said.

An estimated 5,000 posters from the ministry have been distributed across the country. Among complaints were that the posters contained a different layout from the ballot papers. They said this could cause confusion, especially for parties which have promoted their logos by referring to the layout of six logos across and eight logos down, according to the ballot papers. (swa)
