Parties planned a joint campaign

FAKFAK, Irian Jaya: Fifteen political parties had planned a joint parade here but were forced to drop them as police said they had not notified them.

Police chief Lt.Col. Sukamto Hamdoko said joint parades are not covered in laws touching on street rallies or the election law and said he would ask organizer Syamsul Bahry for clarification, Antara reported.

Chairman of the Regional Elections Committee Frans Renmeuw confirmed the plan, saying each party had agreed to join with one vehicle and five flags each from their supporters.

Syamsul said he would coordinate with the police to enable the plans to go on.
