Parking body's performance rebuked

JAKARTA: Chairwoman of the City Council's Commission C for economic affairs Ana Rudhiantina questioned on Monday the poor performance of the City Parking Body (BP Parkir) in collecting overdue parking fines.

"Until July of this year, the parking body only reached 25 percent of its target," Ana from the Golkar Party told reporters at a hearing.

She said the parking body was only able to collect Rp 7 million from its total target of Rp 28 billion.

Meanwhile, the parking body's deputy chairman, Saritua Siagian, blamed the many parking attendants who fear layoffs from the use of computers in collecting fines.

"They are afraid that they will lose their job if the program was fully put into effect," Saritua said at the hearing.

The city administration began cooperating with several private companies in managing parking areas on and off the street this year by implementing computerized programs.--JP
