Parking attendants stage protest

CILACAP, Central Java: Hundreds of parking attendants rallied
at the legislature building on Monday to protest the local
government's plan to increase its take of parking fees by 70
percent.

The protesters called the increase from Rp 14,000 to Rp 24,000
inhumane and impossible to comply with.

During their meeting with representatives of the
demonstrators, councillors from Commission C for financial
affairs promised to bring the parking attendants' complaint to
the local administration.

Councillor Supriyanto Hadibroto said the increase was being
sought because the regency failed to meet its revenue target from
parking in the previous fiscal year. The local administration
collected Rp 97.3 million of the targeted Rp 139 million in
parking revenue last year. (45/lup)
