Parents protest enrollment procedure

BEKASI: More than 60 parents from Pekayon, Bekasi rallied in front of the Bekasi regional council on Thursday to protest the enrollment procedure at the regency's SMU Negeri 8.

The protesters said the enrollment committee had unofficially accepted students who did not pass the entrance test.

Accepting some 320 new students, the school has reportedly left one class empty. "Why would they do that when so many junior high school graduates are keen on entering the school," Sri, one of the parents, said.

Sri Gunada, principal of SMU Negeri 8 Bekasi, admitted that there was an empty class, but said the school committee would handle the matter. -- Antara
