Paralympics athletes get funds

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian contingent to the Sydney Paralympics received more than Rp 600 million (US$70,600) in contributions to support their participation, an official said on Thursday.

The National Sports Council (KONI) provided a donation of Rp 105 million and the government, through the defunct state ministry for youth affairs and sport gave Rp 500 million.

"Actually, we only proposed Rp 360 million from the state ministry," said KONI's official in charge of planning and budget, Togi Hutagaol.

Indonesia is sending five athletes who will compete in two sports and 19 officials who will take part in various congresses held in conjunction with the Paralympics. (nvn)
