Papuan KPU members elected
JAYAPURA, Papua: Papua has finally elected five members representing different communities in the province to the General Elections Committee (KPU), who will be installed officially on Saturday in jakarta.
The five are activists Golda Aronggear and Johanis Bonay, academicians Ferry Karet and Masa'ad and Hendrik Rumboirussi, who represents religious institutions.
Governor J.P. Salossa said the Papuan representatives were appropriate, because none of them came from the government or had any link to political parties, so they should be independent in organizing the elections in the province.
Hasim Sangaji, secretary of the Papua KPU, said the five would join an orientation session held by the KPU in Jakarta before being installed along with other members from across the country. A working conference is to follow the swearing-in.
A provincial KPU is also in charge of selecting election commission members at the regency and municipality levels. -- JP
