Panwaslu to probe campaign violation
BANDUNG: Garut Regency Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) is probing an alleged electoral violation, following a campaign rally held by Megawati's campaign team on Wednesday in Garut regency.
Zakky Resmana, the chairman of Garut Election Supervisory Committee, said that the alleged violation happened after Memo Hermawan, the deputy regent of Garut, led some 500 people in the regency in declaring that they would support Megawati in the presidential election runoff.
The committee said that the supporters of Megawati had breached election regulations as they conducted a rally out of the campaign schedule, which falls between Sept. 14 and Sept. 16. Zakky asserted that they campaigned for Megawati in the function, as they put up large Megawati posters in front of the public and also urged people on the streets to vote for Megawati in the Sept. 20 runoff. -- JP
