Panic button service

I would like to comment on news that the Jakarta Police have teamed up with a private company to provide panic button services. Jakarta residents must be familiar with the phrase: "Nothing's free in Jakarta". Even to pee in public toilets we have to pay.

Now the Jakarta Police plan to set up a Panic Button System to provide premium security services for people who are willing to pay more. While some view this as a new innovation of the police to serve the public, others fear that it would be seen as a commercialization of their public service duty.

To me, and other ordinary people who cannot afford to pay that much, the system would only make our daily life more insecure. Logically the police would be more focused on serving those who pay.

I cannot see this system as an improvement of police security services for the people at large. On the contrary, this could mean less service for us and more for panic button subscribers. Please don't forget, people who do not join the program also pay taxes. So please serve and protect us too.
