PAN councillor retakes chair

JAMBI, Jambi: Zulkifli Somad, a councillor of the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction, was reelected on Monday as the chairman of Jambi municipal council, defeating candidates from the Golkar Party and the Democratic Party.

Zulkifli garnered 23 votes in the election, far above Golkar's Asmawi Syamsuri and Democratic Party's Sukarno, who received 15 votes and one vote, respectively. One councillor abstained.

Zulkifli's was a surprise victory, as it was thought he would only gain eight votes from the PAN faction. -- JP
