PAN campaign claims child's life in Batam

BATAM, Riau: A seven-year old child, named Rizki, was killed during a campaign on Sunday by the National Mandate Party (PAN) on the island of Batam, Riau province.

A number of other PAN supporters were injured when a truck carrying them collided with another truck loaded with ice in Sijantung village, Galang subdistrict.

Rizki along with his mother Juwita, 26, were among the victims in the crash that took place as their truck failed to avoid another truck loaded with ice, which suddenly turned right from the opposite direction.

Rizki and several other passengers were thrown out of the truck. He was killed, but others survived.

Under campaign rules, children are prohibited from participating in campaigns. But this regulation has often been breached by political parties and their supporters.

Juwita said she took her son with her because there was nobody to take care of him at home. --JP
