Palyja warns of supply problems

JAKARTA (JP): The city's joint venture tap water company PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) warned on Tuesday of a possible disruption in water supplies.

In a written statement on Tuesday, Palyja announced that due to the high turbidity of the water in Cisadane River, Tangerang regency-owned water company PAM Kerta Raharga had decreased its water supply to Palyja by 50 percent since Monday.

Palyja is currently receiving a water supply of about 1,200 liters per second, down from the normal supply of 2,200 liters per second.

Palyja said it was doing its best to minimize the problem by increasing production at the Pejompongan Water Treatment Plant by 20 percent.

The company also said it was operating all of the water trucks in its fleet, but due to the size of the problem the vehicles were only able to serve public hospitals.

Palyja further suggested residents fill up their water tanks when the water flow returned to normal in order to anticipate possible disruptions in the water supply.

"Palyja hopes that this problem will normalize within 24 hours and we will update the public with any developments," it said.(hdn)
