Palu to host beach volleyball meet
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Volleyball Association has appointed Central Sulawesi to stage a national beach volleyball championship in the capital city of Palu in early June.
"Central Sulawesi has been successfully developing the sport over the last few years," the National Sports Council's Central Sulawesi branch chairman, Samikoen, said Monday.
The association's just-elected branch chairman, Azwar Syam, said the province has excellent potential to develop the sport, although not all athletes receive intensive training.
Antara reported that Central Sulawesi's athletes, Alpinus and Sandrina, joined the country's squad at the world championships' series in Jakarta last year and will join the national team for the 19th SEA Games in Jakarta in October. (yan)
