Pakistani tourists questioned
JAKARTA (JP): City police are investigating two visiting Pakistanis and their hosts in connection with the charges they are leveling against each other.
"We have to be careful in investigating this case to find out which side is right," City Police spokesman Lt. Col. Bambang Haryoko said here yesterday.
The two Pakistani tourists, identified as Muhammad, 25, and Usman, 26, were arrested at their rented rooms on Sunday morning by Central Jakarta police detectives, who found several grams of heroin and other illegal drugs in their bags.
The detectives went to the house on Jl. Gunung Sahari belonging to Rauf Afero, a local resident, following a report by Rauf that the two Pakistanis had entered his personal living quarters without his knowledge.
"During questioning, Muhammad and Usman claimed that Rauf entrapped them over money," Bambang said.
The police also are questioning Rauf. "I can't reveal the result because the investigation has not been completed yet," the spokesman said.
The two Pakistanis swear that they have nothing to do with the heroin.
"One of them said that he has to take Valium under his doctor's orders," Bambang said.
The two tourists, who are renting a room from Rauf during their two-week stay here, said that one of them had lost some of his money and a video camera.
When he entered his room, he found that his bag had been opened by someone, Bambang said. "Therefore, he rushed to his friend's room to inform him about it, but he went into the wrong room, where Rauf's wife was."
After a quarrel, Rauf lodged a complaint at the nearby police station.
The police have released the two Pakistanis on bail, pending further investigation. (bsr)
