Painting contest at Ciputra Mall

JAKARTA (JP): About 1,500 orphans are expected to take part in a painting competition on a 1,500-meter canvas at Ciputra Hotel and Mall in West Jakarta on Dec. 6.

Harti Hadisoemo, spokesperson of the hotel, said the competition, held jointly with Radio Sonora, Fantasi Tabloid and Faber Castell, was expected to be recorded as the longest children's painting at the Indonesian Museum of Records.

The contest will be held under the theme of "Me and my mother" in recognition of Women's Day, Harti said. Women's Day falls on Dec. 22.

The committee has provided prizes worth Rp 15 million to be given to 20 winners from two age classifications: between six and nine years old and between nine and 12 years old.

Those wishing to enter the contest will be charged Rp 20,000 each, which includes payment to Faber Castell, 12 Aquarell coloring pencils and snacks.

"Ten percent of the registration funds will be given to children at orphanages," Harti said. (hhr)
