Painter Nashar dies at 65
JAKARTA (JP): Renowned painter Nashar died at his home at 3:30 a.m. yesterday after suffering renewed difficulties with chronic bronchial asthma for several months. He was 65 years old.
Nashar, who said that his works were based on "three nons" (non-academic, non-esthetic and non-technical), had been treated at the Mitra Keluarga hospital in East Jakarta for two weeks. He was discharged on Tuesday.
His body was taken from his rented home on Gang Salak, Jl. Dewi Sartika, East Jakarta, to the Jakarta Art Institute in Central Jakarta for a prayer service, before he was buried at the Karet public cemetery in South Jakarta in the afternoon.
In January, at least 25 painters requested that the Jakarta Art Council award Nashar for his dedication to painting and art education over several decades.
Nashar, born Oct. 3, 1928, in Pariaman, West Sumatra, is survived by a wife and two grown children. (anr)
