Painter gives away sketches

YOGYAKARTA: One of the Indonesia's most popular painters,
Djoko Pekik, created 13 sketches in less than three hours at his
birthday party here recently and gave them away to his
colleagues.

The modest party was held at Pekik's house in Madukismo,
Bantul regency on Saturday.

Pekik is 63 years old.

"What Pekik did was very odd and surprising. He made 13
sketches and gave them away while there are many art collectors
waiting to buy his paintings," painter and art curator Hendro
Suseno said. (44)
