Padang scribes end boycott
PADANG, West Sumatra: Hundreds of journalists ended a one-week news blackout of Governor Dunidja's activities on Friday after the latter apologized for his office's poor treatment of them.
Journalists launched the strike after an incident last week when the governor's public relations officials made them wait and eventually gave them a car with faulty brakes as their transportation to cover Dunidja's visit to Solok regency.
"This is the fault of the public relations officials and is my responsibility. I apologize," Dunidja said in a meeting with the journalists and 14 media executives.
The one-week boycott was supported by all media executives in the city, along with state-run television TVRI and state-owned radio RRI. (28/edt)
