Owners ask closure plan reviewed

BOGOR: Owners of nightspots and entertainment centers asked the Bogor municipality on Friday to review the decision to ban their operation during the fasting month, saying their workers would not be able to make money if they did not work.

An owner of a billiards center, Suyanto, told reporters that the administration could exempt his business from the ruling as billiards was also a sport.

Moreover, Suyanto said many of his employees were divorcees who still had to take care of their children.

"Who will pay them if we close our business for the whole month?" Suyanto said after meeting with the Bogor mayor at the latter's office.

An assistant to the mayor, Diani Budiarto, said the decree on the closure of billiard centers and other entertainment centers was final.--JP
