Overstaying alien deported

MATARAM, West Sumatra: A Bangladeshi, Ismail Hossain Jaorder, who was to marry Kartini, a resident of Babakan, Mataram municipality, will be deported from the province for overstaying his visit.

The man entered Indonesia by crossing from Malaysia to Riau in a small boat, and then on to Mataram for the marriage, according to Mataram Immigration Chief Sudirman on Tuesday. Jaorder was currently in immigration quarantine, Antara reported.

Last year, the Mataram immigration office deported 17 foreigners for abusing and overstaying their visas. Most came from Europe and Australia, and were expelled for having used their tourist visas to work in the province.

By working in the area illegally the foreigners robbed the local population of employment opportunities, Sudirman said. (swe)
