Over 100 kiosks neglected in Bogor
BOGOR (JP): A total of 110 temporary kiosks in the Kebon Kembang market have not been occupied. The kiosks are provided for free for market traders who lost their sites in the fire late last March.
The distance of the kiosks to the market is one reason why traders are reluctant to occupy them.
"Because the place is not strategic, the traders have moved to another site," Usman Zakaria, an assistant to the mayor said yesterday.
Meanwhile traders told The Jakarta Post that the locations are not interesting for them.
Suteng, a bird trader, said the kiosk allocated to him on Jl. Abesin was dirty and smelly.
Suteng sold his two kiosks on the street for Rp 1.5 million and bought four others on Jl. Pengadilan for Rp 4 million.
This was possible as shoe traders on Jl. Pengadilan have moved to kiosks nearer to the razed market, he said.
Mayor Eddy Gunardi has sealed the neglected kiosks.
The temporary shelters have also led to a worsening of the traffic problems. The congestion is lightened when officers are deployed in the area. (21/anr)
