Out of sight, out of mind
It was really heartening to see in The Jakarta Post on Aug. 26 that forest management, illegal logging and ecotourism were all getting a jolly good airing. It does seem at last that the government are on the right track.
Sadly, not so the Bukit Sentul garbage collectors. Just a few weeks ago I recollect reading several letters in the Post on this precise subject.
As I gaze at the split black plastics bags, free of their dustbins, spewing out their contents on the ground outside my back window, I am comforted by the maid's remark earlier that in fact I need not worry as that's the neighbors' garbage, she takes ours much further down the road out the bank and out of sight...
The Bukit Sentul lake is a favorite location for the TV soap stations. The crew spend much time munching take-aways. Now the banks are strewn with thousands of little white styrofoam boxes. All part of the scenery around here.
Come on guys, who is going to be next to clean up their act?
