Our ailing society

Our society appears to be ailing. The advent of the information revolution has not made people more discerning in selecting information, rather it has made them more prone to act on hearsay. Rumors that contradict common sense are easily swallowed.

This affliction is seen as normal because our law enforcement apparatus, which should be acting firmly against offenders, appears to have become numb, and falls easily victim to trials by the mobs. So many police posts and stations have of late been ransacked.

One could theorize about hunger driving people to violence in Karawang. This, though, must not become an apology (for violence). If all our difficulties and sufferings must be compensated by looting and rage, how barbarous our society must be.
