Orchestra, choir mark UI jubilee

JAKARTA (JP): The University of Indonesia will end the commemoration of its 50th anniversary with performances by its student Mahawaditra symphony orchestra and Paragita choir on Tuesday evening.

A release from the university on Saturday said the two groups would present a number of classical, operatic and traditional songs.

Among the pieces to be performed are Johann Strauss' Kaiser Waltzer and Johannes Brahms' Academic Festival Overture. The two groups will also perform several traditional Indonesian songs, including Es Lilin and Warung Pojok.

According to the statement, the event, which will take place at the Taman Ismail Marzuki arts center, will allow the Paragita choir to prepare for the World Choir Olympics in Austria in July.

Tickets for the concert are priced at Rp 25,000 and Rp 50,000 each. The organizers can be reached by phone at 786-6403 and 786- 3453. (bsr)
