Operation Clean

"Operation Clean" which was launched by the armed forces months ago has produced concrete results. The operation is aimed at ridding certain places in the city of potential criminals. It was also meant to curb all forms of gambling. This measure of authority is really laudable.

However, we often hear complaints from Indonesian female workers, who have just returned from Saudi Arabia, that they were vulgarly abused in the Soekarno-Hatta airport by "officials" wearing uniforms with badges of a department, together with unofficial persons in plain clothes, who were equally rude.

It might be worthwhile to also extend the `operation clean' activity to include the Soekarno-Hatta airport so that unpleasant scenes in the airport could be eliminated and make foreign tourists feel comfortable.
