Operation against luxury cars planned

JAKARTA: The city administration has announced it will launch an operation to force luxury car owners to pay vehicle tax.

City Revenues Agency head Deden Supriadi said on Friday that about 10,000 luxury car owners had not paid the tax.

"We will cooperate with city police in the operation," Deden told reporters at City Hall after announcing a gubernatorial decree which increased the vehicle tax.

He said he had earlier sent letters to the owners of the cars, which cost at least Rp 400 million each, but had received an unsatisfactory response.

He said earlier only a few luxury cars were registered, with most of the owners evading paying by bribing officials.--JP
