Open manhole kills two

BATAM, Riau: Two children were killed when they inadvertently cycled over an open manhole concealed by flood waters.

Antara reported that the body of Prajudi, 14 years, and his niece Windah (7), were found inside the huge drainage system a few hours later.

A third passenger of the bike, Windah's 8-year old sister Vera Yunita, survived the ordeal which occurred in the Bengkong area.

The three were on their way home after attending a Koran reading lesson. Their teacher had already warned them not to venture home because it was pouring at the time. (emb)
