Only two firms object to wage hike

JAKARTA (JP): On the eve of the new monthly minimum wage implementation in the capital on Feb. 1, only two companies have filed complaints to the province's ministry of manpower and transmigration office over the hike, an official said on Wednesday.

Spokesman for the city administration Muhayat would not identify the two firms.

He said the city hall had set a Feb. 1 deadline for companies to raise their objection to the new minimum salary, which had been moved back from its original schedule on Jan. 1.

In his decree No.302/2001 issued on Jan. 29, Governor Sutiyoso raised the minimum wage to Rp 426.250 (US$45.8) from Rp 344,257.

The monthly minimum wage was determined by the provincial tripartite wages committees in the provinces and approved by the respective governors.

The provincial minimum wage is only valid for job seekers and workers with zero work experience. (04)
