One year sought for embezzlers

BOGOR: Prosecutors at the Cibinong District Court demanded a
one-year jail term for 17 former members of the Depok City
Council for their alleged embezzlement of Rp 7.5 billion (about
US$760,000) from the city budget.

They also asked the judges to fine each defendant Rp 50
million and make them return the embezzled payments, ranging from
between Rp 165 million and Rp 438 million.

The trial was chaired by judge Andi Samsan Nganro, while the
chief prosecutor was Bambang Suharyadi.

Included in the indictment were former council chairman Sutadi
and incumbent council chairman Naming D. Bothin. --JP
