One wounded in shooting

DENPASAR, Bali: Roadside vendor Wayan Pasek Samiada was rushed
to Sanglah Hospital after he was hit by a stray bullet when an
unknown, gun-wielding man fired after an escaping pickpocket in
Kuta.

Antara quoted Badung police chief Lt. Col. Paulus Purwoko
Thursday as saying that an examination of the projectile showed
the gun could not have belonged to a policeman.

The news agency said that the incident took place when a
pickpocket tried to rob a tourist, Tracy Jane, on Jl. Kartika
Plaza. A man driving a dark jeep chased after the robber and
fired at him. (swe)
