One-way traffic create problems
Deputy Governor for Economic and Development Tubagus M. Rais
has said that the one-way traffic policy, which was introduced in
some areas in the city to alleviate traffic congestions, has
failed.
"It even creates new problems," Rais said yesterday.
The policy was introduced earlier this year by the City Land
and Traffic Control Agency (DLLAJ) to overcome Jakarta's
notorious traffic problems.
The one-way traffic system was implemented in some areas of
the city notorious for their traffic jams, including Tanah Abang
in Central Jakarta, and Ciputat in South Jakarta.
Rais said that the implementation of the policy has also
perpetuated the image of Jakarta as an arrogant city.
"We're still thinking of developing pedestrian areas to soften
that image," he added. (09)
