One student dies in street brawl

JAKARTA (JP): A brawl between the students of two high schools on Jl. Matraman in East Jakarta claimed one life on Wednesday, a local police officer said.

The victim, a year one student, was slashed three times while trying to escape the afternoon brawl, in which the two groups of students threw stones at each other on the busy street.

Four others were injured in the brawl and are being treated at the hospital.

Police said they were still investigating the case but none of the students involved in the brawl had been arrested.

Another street brawl took place in East Jakarta on Wednesday between a group of high school students and youngsters of the Kebun Sayur area.

One person was seriously injured and was treated in Cipto Mangunkusuma General Hospital's emergency unit. (04)
