One million young drug users in RI

SEMARANG: More than one million Indonesian youths aged between
15 and 23 are victims of drug abuse, State Minister of Women's
Empowerment Khofifah Indar Parawansa said here on Saturday.

"The real number is probably much higher. Out of every ten
drug addicts, only one is probably a reported case," Khofifah
said.

She estimated that half of the students involved in street
brawls were drugs users.

She added that weak law enforcement against drug abuse was the
cause of rampant drug trafficking, with the fact that several
kinds of narcotics being locally produced only aggravated the
situation further.(har/edt)
