One killed in train collision

MUARA ENIM, South Sumatra : One person was killed and four others were injured when two coal trains crashed head-on at Ujan Mas village, Ujan Mas district in Muara Enim on Friday.

The fatality was identified as the driver of one of the trains. The four injured victims were all employed by the state- owned Indonesian Train Company, Antara reported.

A witness said the two trains came from opposite directions at around 6:30 a.m. Both trains sent signals for passing but as they came at the same time and on the same line, a collision was inevitable.

Both trains were seriously damaged, as were an estimated 80 meters of the line. (emf)
