One killed in toll road mishap

BOGOR (JP): Three trucks collided on the Jagorawi toll road in Kampung Rambutan, East Jakarta, on Monday, killing one and severely injuring another.

The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Uci bin Suhandi, the assistant of the driver of a tank truck, while Zainal Arifin, 44, the truck driver, was severely injured, said Udin, a friend of Zainal at the PMI Hospital in Bogor.

Bogor Police said Uci was a resident of Kampung Cibitung, Sukanegara district, Cianjur regency, West Java.

Udin said the collision took place at 4 a.m. on Monday when the tank truck was on its way to Plumpang, North Jakarta to the depot of state-owned Gas and Oil company Pertamina.

"Zainal was trying to overtake a speeding truck loaded with sand and another truck carrying sacks of cement followed.

"Unfortunately the cement truck hit Zainal's truck from behind, causing Zainal to lose control of his vehicle," he told reporters at the hospital.

"The cement truck continued on after hitting Zainal's truck," he added. (21/sur)
