One killed in toll road car crash

BOGOR (JP): Yusuf, 35, died instantly on Wednesday after being hit by a speeding car driven by Ahmad Dewanto, 27, who was allegedly under the influence of illegal drugs, on the Jagorawi toll road.

Yusuf, a resident of Cimaphar subdistrict, was cutting the grass beside the toll road when the incident happened.

"We have checked the driver, Ahmad. He's still in shock but his urine has been sent to the hospital for drug testing," Bogor City Police Traffic Unit chief Capt. Giri Purwanto said.

Ahmad was suspected to have been under the influence of drugs as police found a device used for inhaling shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) in his car.

The incident then led to a minor pileup as a Kijang van smashed into the car in front of it, when the driver suddenly hit the brake to avoid Ahmad's automobile.

One person was injured in the collision, but no fatalities were reported.

"I don't know what happened ... it happened so fast," Sopian, the injured driver, said at Bogor PMI Hospital. (21/edt)
