One dies in mass brawl

MEDAN, North Sumatra: A man was killed on Monday in a brawl between two groups of hoodlums on Jl. Cipto in Lubuk Pakam, 27 kilometers south of here.

The victim, identified as Robika, 22, suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest and thigh. He died from extreme bleed loss on his way to Horas General Hospital.

Witnesses said the rival groups locked horns following a dispute over a share of territory. The clash sparked commotion around the area as it broke out while people were shopping for their breaking-of-the-fast meal.

Tension gripped Lubuk Pakam, the capital of Deli Serdang regency, following the clash, with shopowners halting business early and residents refraining from going out. (39)
